A Life Built on Rhythm and Story
Karlus Trapp is more than just a talented musician; he is someone who lives and breathes the history of the songs he plays. Throughout a career that spans decades and stretches from the energy of Staten Island to the relaxed shores of Southwest Florida, he has focused on the "good vibes" that only live performance can bring. Karlus believes that music is a universal language that connects us all, helping people find common ground through rhythm and melody.
Where New Orleans Funk Meets Caribbean Soul
A Blend of Global Grooves
Karlus describes his sound as a mix of "musical good vibes." It is a seamless blend of New Orleans funk and Caribbean rhythms, all built on a foundation of soulful, bluesy rock. Whether he is playing classics from the 1940s or hits from the 80s, every performance is a direct conversation with his audience. He builds his sets from scratch, using layers of rhythm and harmony to create something that feels fresh, personal, and completely his own.

A 100-Year Journey Through Song
The Roots of American Music
Since 2004, Karlus has shared his flagship program, "The Roots of Black Music in America," with audiences across the country. This isn't just a show—it is a narrated musical journey through the sounds that built our culture, from spirituals and Ragtime to Jazz and Calypso. Having visited nearly 60 libraries and schools, he uses music to bridge the gap between history and the present, inviting everyone to experience the legacy of artists like Louis Armstrong.

Over 25 Years of Teaching and Inspiration
Mentoring the Next Generation
As an educator, Karlus knows that the best way to learn is to have fun. For over 25 years, he has taught more than just guitar and piano; he has helped people find their own creative voices. One of his most meaningful projects involved leading songwriting residencies in New York schools after 9/11. By helping students in grades 1-7 turn their feelings into original songs, he proved that music is one of the most powerful tools we have for emotional expression.

In the studio, Karlus is a skilled producer and multi-instrumentalist whose work has appeared on ABC’s General Hospital and in international commercials. He is a versatile collaborator who isn't afraid of a challenge, such as working with Kenyan lyricist Kahoro Kibochi to produce an E.P. in Kikuyu and Swahili. From radio-ready tracks to custom soundscapes, he brings professional experience and a sharp artistic ear to every project he takes on.
